In a massive win for the automotive world, Geely has officially set a Guinness World Record for engine efficiency. Their new hybrid system has reached a peak thermal efficiency of 48.4%, a figure that was recently thought to be impossible for mass-produced cars. For context, most standard engines you see on the road today only sit around 25% to 35% efficiency. This means Geely is now converting nearly half of every drop of fuel directly into power rather than wasting it as heat.

This breakthrough comes from Geely’s new 'i-HEV' (Intelligent Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology. By using AI-driven algorithms to manage energy in real-time, the system optimizes exactly when to use the electric motor and when to fire up the engine. The result is a staggering fuel economy of up to 105 MPG (or roughly 44.64 km/L). For drivers in Brunei, this level of efficiency could mean trips to the petrol station become a much rarer occasion.

Despite the focus on efficiency, Geely hasn't sacrificed performance. The i-HEV system features an '11-in-1' electric drive unit that delivers 230 kW of power. This allows for incredibly quick responsiveness in urban driving, where the car can handle low-speed traffic almost entirely on electric power before the record-breaking engine kicks in for higher speeds.
By hitting nearly 50% thermal efficiency, Geely is approaching levels of performance usually reserved for multimillion-dollar Formula 1 engines, but they are doing it for the car sitting in your driveway.
