Nissan Teases Next-Gen Skyline Sports Sedan

The Skyline name is officially making a comeback. Nissan has confirmed that a 14th-generation Skyline is in development, marking the first full redesign of the model in over a decade.

The announcement came during Nissan’s long-term vision presentation, where CEO Ivan Espinosa described the Skyline as one of the brand’s “Heartbeat” models. These are the cars that define Nissan’s identity and emotional core, not just sales numbers.

Not a GT-R, and that matters

First things first, this is not a GT-R. The GT-R and Skyline have been separate nameplates for years now, and that hasn’t changed. The new Skyline is a four-door sports sedan, not a coupe and not a supercar rival.

Think of it as sitting between the Nissan Z and GT-R. It’s built for performance, but still practical enough for daily driving.

Design: modern, sharp, and a bit old-school in spirit

From the teaser images, the new Skyline looks much sharper and more aggressive than the outgoing model. It borrows inspiration from older Skylines like the C10 and R34, but avoids going full retro.

  • Quad circular LED taillights inspired by R32 to R34 Skylines
  • Skyline script badge on the rear fender
  • Classic ‘S’ badge on the hood instead of a Nissan badge
  • Wide stance with sharper body lines
  • Thin silver beltline running across the side profile

Engine expectations

Official specs haven’t been confirmed yet, but reports point toward a twin-turbo 3.0L V6. This is the same family of engine used in the Nissan Z and Skyline Nismo.

Power could land somewhere around 420 to 450 horsepower depending on the final tuning. There are also strong rumors of a manual transmission option, which would be a rare move in today’s market.

A hybrid version is also being considered to help meet tightening emissions rules, so multiple powertrains are likely.

What about the GT-R?

Fans were hoping for GT-R news, but it didn’t show up at Nissan’s event. Early rumors suggested a fully electric successor, but newer reports hint at a possible hybrid setup instead.

For now, the Skyline and GT-R remain separate projects with different roles in Nissan’s lineup.

Infiniti version coming too

The Skyline will stay a Japan-only model, but an Infiniti version based on the same platform is expected for the US market.

This follows the same pattern as before, where the previous Skyline was sold overseas as the Infiniti Q50. The new version is expected to continue that performance-focused direction.
